Battle of Rivoli

January 14, 1797 - January 15, 1797

The Austrian army under Baron Alvinczi attempted to destroy General Joubert's division on their way to relieve Mantua. Joubert was able to fall back to Rivoli and hold out until General Bonaparte could arrive with reinforcements. As the French arrived in strength, they were able to defeat the Austrians decisively, ending Austrian hopes in northern Italy.
