Fairly quiet, Delaborde was meant for the church but joined the army instead. Retaining his religious learning, he was able to converse in Latin with priests, which could prove useful in areas where he did not know the language. Hampered by rheumatism, Delaborde sometimes had to travel in a litter, but could still lead his men into battle when necessary.
